The medical staff at Largo Medical Center presented its 3rd Annual Medical Staff Healthcare Educational Scholarship to Alexis Noelle Franco, an 18-year old senior at Largo High School. The $10,000 award is given to one high school senior, over the course of four years.
"As an academic medical center, we not only work to educate the physicians and nurses of tomorrow, but also to support and encourage the interest of our local high school students in the field of healthcare as well," said Karen Kritsky, DO, Medical Staff Member, Largo Medical Center. "And this scholarship is just one way that we encourage them and take stock in their future."
Criteria for the scholarship includes a student who demonstrates a commitment to enter a healthcare related field, leadership, community support and academic excellence by maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA. A committee of physicians on the hospital's medical staff select the recipient. Financial need is a consideration but is not required to receive the scholarship.
"Thank you very much to the medical staff at Largo Medical Center for awarding me this scholarship," said Alexis Franco, Scholarship Recipient. "Since I have been accepted to Wake Forest University, I plan to major in health and exercise science with the long-term goal to become a dermatologist. This scholarship will help me achieve my goal in so many ways."
Franco was awarded her scholarship at the 2016 Annual Largo Medical Center Medical Staff Meeting held Wednesday, April 27 at the Belleair Country Club.
