Largo, FL - In partnership with Empath Health, Largo Medical Center recently began providing patients specialized palliative care services focused on relieving the pain, symptoms and stress of serious illness. This care is introduced early, alongside curative treatment and helps during all stages of various illnesses.

“Our palliative care team can treat pain, nausea, anxiety, fatigue and depression,” said Dr. David Weiland, Chief Medical Officer at Largo Medical Center. “We can help in making life as comfortable as possible, coordinate care with doctors and provide emotional and spiritual support to patients and their family members.”

The team is made up of board-certified physicians, licensed counselors and chaplains. Experts can also assist patients in better understanding their health conditions and medical choices.

“Palliative care is appropriate for anyone dealing with a serious illness and can be introduced in the early stages of curative treatments,” said Rafael Sciullo, President and Chief Executive Officer of Empath Health. “Through these palliative interventions patients and families can experience an improved quality of life.”
