Largo Medical Center Purchases Sun Coast Hospital

Largo, FL – Largo Medical Center, Inc., an affiliate of HCA, has completed the purchase of Sun Coast Hospital, according to Ricky Satcher, Chief Executive Officer of Largo Medical Center. The purchase becomes effective at midnight today.

The closing of the transaction and transfer of ownership was completed after customary regulatory review and approval of the Bankruptcy Court. Largo Medical Center signed an agreement to acquire Sun Coast Hospital on December 28, 2007.

Sun Coast hospital is a 200 bed, full service, in-patient acute care hospital that going forward will operate as a facility of Largo Medical Center.

Largo Medical Center will become a 456-bed acute care facility, making it one of the largest hospitals in Pinellas County.

“We are very excited to welcome the Sun Coast Hospital staff to our team,” said Satcher.  “Sun Coast has a rich tradition of providing excellent health care services to the community and graduate medical educational programs to new physicians. We will be working closely with the staff at Sun Coast to provide complimentary services to ensure that residents of Largo and surrounding communities continue to have access to quality patient care and services.”

The sale will have no effect on scheduled patient appointments or surgeries, or scheduled community health events and classes.
