Rehabilitation is proven to be important in stroke recovery. According to the American Stroke Association,“Even with slight improvement, rehabilitation can mean the difference between returning home or staying in an institution. For a stroke survivor, the rehabilitation goal is to be as independent and productive as possible. That may mean improving physical abilities. Often old skills have been lost and new ones are needed. It's also important to maintain and improve a person's physical condition when possible.”
Indian Rock’s Stroke Rehabilitation Program is dedicated to guiding patients through extensive activities that promote wellness and comfort for a lifetime. Whether someone has experienced a mild, moderate or severe stroke,
our goals are the same: returning him or her to the family and community, easing pain, promoting mobility and function, and advocating for a productive future.
Our approach to stroke rehabilitation is unique because we do not use a one-size-fits-all philosophy. Our program is structured around the severity of the stroke, the location and type of stroke, and the unique needs of each patient.
Program technology at Indian Rocks Rehabilitation that may be included in the treatment plan for the stroke patient include Interactive Metronome, Bioness and VitalStim Therapy.
Interactive Metronome is a brain based rehabilitation and assessment program developed to directly improve the processing abilities that affect attention, motor planning and sequencing. This in turn strengthens motor skills, including mobility and gross motor function and many fundamental cognitive capacities such as planning, organizing and language.
The Bioness system offers advanced technology neuroprosthetic devices to provide functional and therapeutic benefits to patients. These medical devices use electrical stimulation to help regain mobility, independence and quality of life. The NESS L300 is the prescriptive device designed to treat foot drop. The NESS H200 is a custom fit forearm orthosis that is designed to promote hand function.
VitalStim Therapy is a safe and effective treatment for patients suffering with difficulty swallowing or dysphagia. It is a non-invasive therapy using electrical stimulation to stimulate swallowing muscles.
