The Florida Breast Institute at Largo Medical Center

The American Cancer Society estimates that over 207,000 women in the US will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year. Exceptional, expert care is key to their overcoming the disease. The Florida Breast Institute was recently recognized for delivering just that type of high-quality care.

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) granted a three-year full accreditation designation to Florida Breast Institute. This distinction is awarded only to centers that voluntarily commit to providing the highest quality breast care. Accredited centers also undergo a rigorous evaluation process and performance review. The center must comply with NAPBC standards for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast diseases. It is also evaluated on the following factors:

  • Center leadership
  • Clinical management
  • Research
  • Community outreach
  • Professional education
  • Quality improvement

These factors have been identified as significant indicators of quality care. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.

The staff at Largo Medical Center understands that excellent breast care begins with a commitment to patients. “Since the Florida Breast Institute opened more than five years ago, our staff has provided that firm commitment to the breast healthcare needs of almost 15,000 patients,” said Anthony Degina, CEO of Largo Medical Center.

“Largo Medical Center invites all women of Pinellas County to experience the difference our staff makes when it comes to personalized and individualized comprehensive services. We provide some of the most remarkable services in our community taking a patient from her first visit, which may include an imaging study, to breast healthcare treatment and beyond.”

Receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center like the Florida Breast Institute ensures that a patient will have access to:

  • Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services
  • A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
  • Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
  • Quality breast care close to home
