New Year, New Name, New Hospital Campus: Largo Medical Center is Growing

Largo, FL – The unveiling of a new hospital name and its new services are coming to the city of Largo!

Sun Coast Hospital, established in 1957, is now part of a 456 bed hospital on two campuses at Largo Medical Center. The big news is that on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, Largo Medical Center is unveiling the ALL NEW Largo Medical Center – Indian Rocks. Local dignitaries including Largo Mayor Patricia Gerard, Largo Chamber President Tom Morrissette and President and CEO of Largo Medical Center, Richard Satcher will be attending. “ Since our acquisition of Sun Coast Hospital, we have been working toward this event where we officially combine two different facilities into one incredible health system,” said Satcher.

More big news? Largo Medical Center – Indian Rocks, formerly known as Sun Coast Hospital:

  • opened The Retreat, a brand new state-of-the-art behavioral medicine program in December of 2009
  • will expand its inpatient rehabilitation program offering one of the highest therapist to patient ratios in Pinellas County by 10 beds in February 2010
  • has a Graduate Medical Education program that has recently been named the West Coast Academic Center of Nova Southeastern University. It is the largest osteopathic Graduate Medical Education program in the southeastern United States.

Additionally, the Indian Rocks campus is a Primary Stroke Center providing 24/7 emergency department services. It has a wound care center with hyperbaric medicine and a sleep disorders laboratory.

The hospital’s main campus is a Primary Stroke Center, an Accredited Chest Pain Center, provides 24/7 emergency department services and is home to the Florida Breast Institute, the Florida Knee and Orthopedic Pavilion, the Florida Spine and Neuro Center, the Tampa Bay Heart Institute and much more.

Largo Mayor Patricia Gerard said, “The City of Largo is very excited about the continued expansion of our wonderful community partners, Largo Medical Center and Largo Medical Center – Indian Rocks.  The additional beds will allow even more of our residents to experience the high quality medical services that we have enjoyed for many years in our community.
