Largo, FL –  Largo Medical Center was named one of the nation’s top performers for a second consecutive year on key quality measures for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States.

Out of 3,300 hospitals submitting accountability data to The Joint Commission, Largo Medical Center is one of only 620 hospitals earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. Largo Medical Center is one of 244 hospitals receiving the award for a second time.

Inclusion on the list is based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported during the previous calendar year. To be recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures, an organization must meet 95 percent or more on performance thresholds on accountability measure data. Largo Medical Center was recognized for achieving these performance thresholds for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

“When we raise the bar and provide the proper guidance and tools, hospitals have responded with excellent results,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P, M.P.H, president, The Joint Commission. “This capacity for continual improvement points toward a future in which quality and safety defects are dramatically reduced and high reliability is sought and achieved with regularity. Such day-to-day progress will slowly but surely transform today’s health care system into one that achieves unprecedented performance outcomes for the benefit of the patients.”

“This recognition is a credit to the hard work of our employees and medical staff," says Anthony Degina, Chief Executive Officer of Largo Medical Center. “Through quality of care, in an environment of learning, we will strive to better the human condition and improve our patients’ experience."
